A newer antivirus program has been available for awhile now, it's known by most as Avast Antivirus which is put out by a Czech software company. Alwill has good detection, ease of use and filters for more than just Antivirus.
For those of us who have 3 or 4 computers in the house that may be on the internet, it's a really good poor man's antivirus option. While not the best in internet security it is a decent product, and that's why I recently installed it on all my machines.
The best Antivirus on the market is BitDefender and the second is Zone Alarm Antivirus, with Norton A.V. coming in a cool 3rd. Why is Bit Defender so high on the list about Norton? Well quite simply the detection, speed, and features of BitDefender are much better than N.A.V..
Keep in mind we are only talking about the Antivirus products, and not the full featured SUITES like Norton Internet Security. BitDefender is not so good when it comes to AntiSPAM, or AntiSPYWARE software.
Why do I need Antivirus, AntiSpam, and AntiSpyware software?
Antivirus software - Prevents the spread of Malicious virus code desinged now days to spread via the inetnet, and is often introduced to your system from other users files or via Spam.
AntiSpam - Attempts to prevent that unwanted email that you get from people that obtain your email address from various sources...this can include your website, or the local phone directories.
AntiSpyware - Attempts to block Mailicious code that would allow others access to your system, including but not limited to screenshots, keyloggers, and full remote control.
If you have high speed internet you might as well add to your annual budget about $100.00 for the upgrades to Antivirus and Spyware Utilities. You can also buy the Suites that will attempt to do all 3 of these, which may run you in the area of $70.00 annually.
